A moderate south-southwest swell continues to move through the San Diego coastline today, keeping dive conditions a bit mixed around La Jolla. Visibility is averaging 8–12 feet this morning, with the cleanest blue water holding farther offshore and outside the kelp where some divers may find up to 15 feet of visibility. Inside the Cove and along the shallow reefs, the swell has stirred up sand and suspended particulate, leaving the water noticeably greener and reducing clarity. The long-period swell is also creating more surge than we’ve seen over the past week, especially on exposed reefs and at rocky entries.

Surface conditions remain fairly manageable during the morning with light southwest winds, but expect the afternoon sea breeze to add some texture on the surface. Water temperatures are holding in the 70–72°F range, making for comfortable diving with plenty of marine life still active. If you’re planning to get in the water today, La Jolla Shores will likely offer the easiest entry and the most consistent conditions, while divers heading farther offshore should be rewarded with the best visibility. Use extra caution around entries and exits as the swell continues to pulse through the day.
