Visibility is pretty limited today, sitting around 5–10 ft. There’s a mixed swell in the water with a short-period W swell at 2–3 ft @ 5 seconds, along with a longer-period SW swell around 2 ft @ 13 seconds. Winds are fairly light, WSW @ 5–10 kts.

The bigger thing to watch is what’s coming this weekend. While Marie is expected to continue tracking west, SoCal will still feel some indirect impacts, mainly from a building south swell and high surf.

A High Surf Advisory and Coastal Flood Advisory will be in effect from 6:00 am Saturday through 11:00 pm Tuesday. The largest breaking waves are expected along south and southwest-facing beaches, like Windansea in La Jolla. Strong rip currents and longshore currents will also be a concern as the swell builds.

Pretty murky out there today with only 5–10 ft of viz. If you’re planning to dive this weekend or early next week, keep a close eye on the increasing surf and use extra caution around exposed entries and exits. Please keep in mind, these conditions can be especially dangerous for inexperienced swimmers!
