Take your first step into freediving and spearfishing while spending an unforgettable weekend at one of Southern California's most iconic dive destinations.
This Course combines our Beginner Freediver and Beginner Spearfishing courses into a single 2.5 day overnight expedition. Rather than learning from shore, you'll complete your training surrounded by crystal-clear water, towering kelp forests, and the rugged coastline of San Clemente Island.
Over the course of the weekend, you'll develop the foundational skills needed to freedive safely and confidently before transitioning into the fundamentals of responsible spearfishing. Between training sessions, you'll have plenty of opportunities to explore what Southern California offshore diving is all about.
If you're looking for more than just a certification, this course offers the chance to earn it while embarking on an unforgettable island adventure.
This course is designed for ocean enthusiasts who already feel comfortable in the water and want to combine freediving certification with an introduction to spearfishing.
Because you'll be learning two disciplines over one weekend, we recommend participants already be comfortable swimming in the ocean and capable of making relaxed dives to approximately 10-20 feet in cold water. While prior freediving certification is not required, having some experience snorkeling, diving, surfing, or spending time in the ocean will help you get the most out of the course.
If you're completely new to the ocean or unsure of your comfort level, we recommend completing our standard Beginner Freediver Course before progressing to this expedition.

Freediving Theory

Confined Water Session
Practice foundational freediving skills in the calm, protected waters surrounding the island.

Open Water Session #1
Begin depth training while learning equalization, buddy procedures, rescue skills, and efficient diving technique.
7:00 AM – 9:00 AM
Open Water Session #2
Complete your certification dives and refine your freediving skills.
